Chanel is her Color!

I am very content with the new face of the Chanel Coco Cocoon handbag line.  Following familiar faces of Nicole Kidman, Kate Moss, and Kiera Knightley, Lily Allen is definitely a step in a different direction for the luxury line, and I like it. Mixed views are spinning about Karl's choice of lady because controversy, media-caught nip-slips, and intoxicated pictures seem to brand the songbird. But clearly Chanel is targeting a younger demographic this fall. Apparently Karl has had his eye on her for quite some time now because, "she's fun".

The photo shoot is an obvious reminiscence of classy Audrey in her Tiffany days. Lily Allen looks good all dolled up--a rather rare sight...so posh and precious. But, all Lily aside, what I should be remarking on are the lightweight bags. My opinion sways back and forth. In black + white photos and on Lily they're adorable, but in color...ehh.

The advertising campaign launches in October.

Two Reasons to be Excited for Fall 2009

Barbie

With a touch of the 1950's going on in the bathing suits, and a touch of a Betsey Johnson-esque in the pink poofy dresses, the Barbie Fall 2009 collection holds up to expectations.  In the finale of the Bryant Park production little girls escorted all the Barbie models by holding their hands through one last strut. The sexy, confident, girly looks seen in the wardrobes are everything I want in my closet. To top it off--big....pink....heels (of course).

Alice + Olivia

Typically charming, sweet and subtly forward in fashion, the Fall 2009 collection by Alice + Olivia was not customary. The designer, Stacey Bendet, pushed risk on the runway displays. Flattering the woman's body with sultry dresses, shiny beads, sequins galore, zippers, piecey fabrics, and an all around ruff look. The edgy collection featured black, black, and more black.

Only ONE More Week!

My Canadian friend introduced me to Lykke Li a little over a year ago. The Swedish Indie singer has an eccentric fashion sense, stiff and sensual vocals, and two artistic parents. All of this combined led to the release of her debut album, Youth Novels.

She is now touring all over the US.

I get to see her next Tuesday in LA.... :)

Where are all the women at??!!

WWD published an article yesterday listing the Top 10 highest paid retailers of 2008. Interestingly enough, a luxury brand CEO, Lew Frankfort, made the list which was surprising for such an unfriendly economy. Among the obvious listers were Ebay President John Donahue, and the Chief Executive for Walmart (H. Lee Scott). But, what bothered me was that Scott was not the only man of the Wal-Mart peeps to make the list.. THREE others did as well!

I was scrolling through the lengthy descriptions, titles, and headshots awaiting the sight of a woman but my expectations were not met. Unfortunately, it was a male-dominated list. URGHHH!!!

You can read the article here: (And you don't have to be WWD subscriber to read it )

Purchasing Patterns and Polyester

I spent hours at the fabric store today in pursuit of recreating a playsuit such as those I saw in Soho at the new NY Topshop on Broadway and Broome...

Mirroring the Muse

What better way to begin the blog than to post classic Edie pictures for pure pleasure and reproduction :)
