ShopStyle

If I wasn't inside on a Sunday trying to cool off from the triple-digit temps outside, I'd be out and about wearing this:

Continuing My Mood

Nothing can second my vibes more right now that Coeur de Pirate.
Sometimes it's gratifying when your feelings are upheld by music with a language barrier. With the melody I naturally created my own interpretation and then translated it to find that I wasn't far off. It's sooo beautiful with her voice + piano....

Her name is Beatrice/from Canada/first and only album

A Blissful Ignorance

I've been feeling a little uninspired lately, and it has made this blog a struggle. Although I post the special fashions that catch my eye, things I love and want, and my own interpretations and opinions... I still feel that it's lacking a more personal touch.

So, I decided to put thoughts aside for a minute, and work on another project- I gathered all my old home videos that my best friend, Danielle, and I recorded growing up. I translated them from VHS to DVD and we watched them together. Not only was I crying of laughter, but I became motivated by that young, in-the-moment, fearless soul that she and I both had.... ignorance was bliss.

Then, she and I pumped up our lately deflated esteems by taking up on that creativity once again without shame. In two ways:

1. We (along with our friend Karla) filmed a cooking show for our close friend in Canada who is dearly missing the Food Network. Obviously, the result was a tipsy toast to our friendship, along with ridiculous one-liners that may only be appreciated if our personalities are known...

It was SO much fun.
Either way, this was the result:

2. We had our own low-budget ;) fashion shoot. Music, magazines, make-up, and a mess of clothes. It felt like I was a little girl playing dress-up again, and it was so fun. Danielle dressed me. ...and is one of the results (a modest exemplification in order to stray from an overload of pictures of myself):

Liking Lim's Looks

Philip Lim presented his Spring 2010 Collection as a wearable, innovative cast on basics. He is giving a reason to shop!!

I love the detail on the back of the metalic and gold pieces.

Highlights of the collection: the bold red, entering trench coat with the shoes pictured, and the reptile pattern with pastel palettes and the sequined silver and gold dress all top of the designer's best looks.

Traditional Betsey

Betsey Johnson Spring 2010 Collection
She's still one of my favorite designers because she focuses on one simple article, the party dress, and makes it ridiculously charming every time. Season by season the dresses get more fun and flirty, and the head-to-toe presentation never lacks loud creativity. This one has great shoes too.

Stretchy fabrics.
Vamped up make-up.
Bit of 80's poof in ultra feminine shapes.
Vibrant colors balanced with a few solid minis.
...and surely no neglect to the infamous Betsey leopard print- which is a usual promise to any of her season collections. This time around it's in a tight-fitted chic silhouette by blazer and by mini dress.
The imperfect look of messy hair offset with XL bows top off the ever-so-brilliant dresses for that party, girl.

Every Piece on Me Please

2010 Alexander Wang Resort Collection in collaboration with Gap

"We want to create clothes that are timeless and classic...our girl wants investment pieces."
-Alexander Wang

During NY Fashion Week,  Alexander Wang introduced his S/S 2010 Collection which was loaded with cool denim, casual khaki, a few stripes, and some black and white pieces. ...All combined with gray knee high socks and heels. The leopard print heels- genius!
The entire line showed direct insight and ideas stemming off of his collaboration with Gap for the Alexander Wang Resort Collection which is shown above.

Gorgeous Gwen in Two Thousand Ten

I had to do a post flaunting the work of my favorite person in the industry-- the ever so talented Gwen Stefani of L.A.M.B. Although her Spring/Summer 2010 L.A.M.B. Collection isn't exactly my top pick, I really admire how she sticks to her roots as a Rock n' Roll icon and Rasafarian chic, but blends it together with her new life as a hip mom. The models' looks reference 80's punk and pop. A lot of zippers, some Africian inspired fabric, off-the-shoulder dresses, lacy leggings, destroyed-washed jeans, and flowy Harem pants pack the collection. Color craze is mixed with softer tones, and splats of black, of course.
In my mind, Gwen Stefani stands superior to so many celebrities who try the fashion trade because unlike others, her consumer following is backed by her talent and the quality behind her designs as opposed to simply her name. Hence, she is seven years deep in her career as a fashion designer.

Here are a handful of my favorite looks from the collection:

The Coolest Pants in the World

These amazinggg pantalones are a part of the Acne Spring/Summer '10 collection. We can thank the collaboration with Swarovski for the deep inspiration behind the creation. And we can thank Susie from Style Bubble for sharing the picture. I love the faded coloring (mixed with a black blazer and awesome shoes like that are an added perk). And, the crystals give it an edgier look without overdoing anything. Perfection.

But wait, that's not it! The thing that makes these pants so out of the ordinary is what may not even be noticeable to just any reader's eye (well, maybe my sister), but the crystals placed on the pant legs are in acupuncture pressure points :) That is too cool! The Acne aesthetic is to explore spirituality in today's age by taking the idea of mind and body into abstract pieces. The whole collection brightens neutral palettes with black contrast and tailored body form via quality materials. The production springs from Acne headquarters in Stokholm.
It is articles of clothing like these which really exemplify fashion as art, and embellish fashion as spirit.
